The 11th Water Industry Achievement Awards are being held tonight in Birmingham.

This events objective is to showcase and reward creativity within the UK Water Industry.

This whole industry takes innovation seriously and this will be a celebration of the new ideas, concepts and successes that have happened over the last year.  This year, for the first time, I have been given the chance to attend as a guest of Affinity Water.

The work we have done, in partnership with Affinity Water, on On-line Metaldehyde Monitoring, over the past year has been shortlisted for an award.

Over the last 18 months we have worked with Affinity Water to implement an on-line Metaldehyde monitoring solution, that has taken a laboratory instrument, (a GC-MS in this case), with automated sample preparation, and housed this on a Water Treatment Works.

This is more complicated than it sounds, and the technical challenges have been considerable, but compared to lab based measurements, results are now available immediately and this changes how a WTW can be managed for the better.

This has big implications for the Water Industry, and following the success of this work we’ve done, I am really chuffed that the project was first nominated, and then, shortlisted for the award of ‘Most Innovative Use of Existing Technology’.

I was even more pleased to be invited along to represent the Anatune Team on this project.  It’s been a fantastic task to work on, and the icing on the cake would be for Affinity Water to get the recognition of lots and lots of hard work by winning the award.

This concept has already created lots of interest within the industry, and outside, so everyone involved is crossing their fingers for tonight.

Regardless of winning, it will be my first time at the awards, and I’m very excited to be part of this year’s event.
