The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

In 1928, Otto Frederick Rohwedder established the ultimate bench-mark – by inventing the bread slicing machine.

The separation funnel is 80 years older.

For certain, traditional liquid-liquid extraction is not the best thing since sliced bread.

On one hand, it is:

  • Easy to understand
  • Easy to do
  • Infinitely adaptable

On the other, it is:

  • None too reproducible
  • Hard work
  • A tad hazardous
  • Distinctly Victorian

In 1928, Otto would have thought it dreadfully old fashioned.

Which brings us to automated liquid-liquid extraction.

Modern mass spectrometers are so sensitive that we can miniaturise LLE and still see what we need to see.

Because we can miniaturise, we can automate the whole process.  Because we can automate, we get great reproducibility and we can separate your staff from all those nasty organic solvents, while the robot beavers away 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We think Otto would approve.

Automated Liquid-Liquid Extraction with the GERSTEL MPS is the Best Thing Since Sliced Bread!
