Automated Liquid-Liquid Extraction Methodologies
In October, Anatune attended the Diamond Jubilee Year ChromSoc meeting hosted by Syngenta Research Laboratories. The meeting was accompanied with Anatune demonstrating live in the exhibitors area, how sample preparation such as liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) can be completely automated using the GERSTEL MPS.
At the meeting, Richard Davis, an Applications Chemist for Anatune, gave a presentation on recent projects for automation of LLE methodologies on-line in conjunction with the Agilent 5977B High Efficiency Source Mass Spectrometer. This discussed automation options such as mixing/vortexing, evaporation, derivatisation, centrifugation, and solid phase extraction.
Highlights of the presentation were how automation of existing methodologies are:
- Fast
- Robust
- Reproducible
- Safe
Benefits included:
- Thousands of manual working hours per year saved
- Reduced solvent use
- Reduced running costs
- Production of quality analytical data
