Using SIFT-MS to Determine Drying End Points for In-Line Process Monitoring:

Organic solvents are widely used in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). However, their presence in the final product needs to be carefully controlled and kept as low as possible.

Solvent drying processes are therefore of particular interest to continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing.

In this video, Mark describes the use of Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS). He describes using SIFT-MS as a probe to measure the end-point of a supercritical CO2 extraction technique for drying paracetamol.

The data presented shows good sensitivity. It also allows measurements beyond the traditional gravimetric approaches.

The ability to generate data is extremely beneficial as it allows immediate control of the processes used in continuous API manufacturing.
