This September, we once again took our Voice200ultra SIFT-MS on the road, with visits to customers and conferences.

The first stop was three days at the Winter Garden in sunny Eastbourne, where the 37th British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) Annual Meeting was being held. We took our fully working instrument, with GERSTEL’s MPS autosampler system attached, and demonstrated the diverse range of analyses that SIFT-MS can tackle to many of the delegates at the meeting.

One of the highlights of the first day was the evening drinks reception, followed by a Pub Quiz (at which a number of us here at Anatune ably assisted the winning table!).

SIFT-MS is the perfect instrument for making real-time measurements of ambient air – so that is what I got it to do. Monitoring the ethanol content of the reception hall was as simple as opening the inlet and letting it measure the ethanol – a method that took less than 5 minutes to create.

And you can see what difference two hours makes…!

From around 100 μg/m3 at 6pm to nearly 10 mg/m3 at 8pm, a 100-fold increase in ambient ethanol – passive drinking indeed!

On the subject of breath analysis, Anatune, in conjunction with Syft Technologies’ are hosting a 2-day seminar on The Analysis of Biomarkers in Breath & Body Fluids by SIFT-MS on the 18th and 19th October. There are only a few places remaining, so for more information either contact us by phone on 01223 279210 or email: enquiries@anatune.co.uk or see here for more information.
