AS130: Preliminary Evaluation of ATEX-PTV-GC/Q-TOF-MS for the Determination of Pesticides in QuEChERS Extracts of Samples Containing High Concentrations of Chlorophyll

The GC-MS pesticide analysis in green commodities is challenging because non-volatile components build up in the inlet liner causing a deterioration in chromatographic performance.

This GC-MS pesticide analysis application was developed to reduce the effects of this contamination by using Automated Tube Linear Exchange – Programmable Thermal Vaporisation – Gas Chromatography – Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (ATEX-PTV-GC/Q-TOF-MS).

ATEX-PTV-GC/Q-TOF-MS was evaluated for direct analysis of crude extracts of fresh herbs, chosen as a representative complex green plant matrix.

This system allows exchange of the sample tube in the GC inlet and hence reduces the effects of contamination.

In this application note 132 analytes were evaluated of which 98 were detectable in a 10 ng/g spiked sample.  Recoveries were variable across analytes and these could be improved with further method optimisation.

Anatune Application Notes:

Anatune (and our partners) regularly produce Application Notes. These cover a wide and diverse range of methods, techniques, applications, and related chromatography technology. Our Application Notes provide detailed technical information, unique applications insight and method development & validation, as well as systems configuration innovations to ensure readers can further their knowledge in an engaging way. For many years, Anatune’s Application Notes have helped and supported analytical chemists in the fields of Gas Chromatography – GC, Liquid Chromatography – LC, and Mass Spectrometry – MS achieve to develop analytical solutions. Visit our Applications Note page to search for the insight you need in the following categories: Matrix, Technique, Analyte, Instruments, Product, Industry. Or alternatively, CONTACT US for more information or to put forward an Application Note subject and our Applications Team will be happy to support you in any way they can.
