Amber – Fake or the Real Thing?
Amber is fossilised tree-resin that is millions of years old and is valued for jewellery making (and, interestingly, as an ingredient in Aquavit liquor).
Amber is valued according to its grade and composition and fake amber is commonplace, so pyrolysis GC-MS has a useful part to play in authentication and classification of this interesting and unusual material.
