GC-MS is Suddenly A Lot More Interesting
For the last 20 years or so the single quadrupole GC-MS has been the main-stay of very many analytical laboratories.
If you believe that the future will present you with different challenges, perhaps your next GC-MS purchase should be something else…
Once upon a time, the nominal mass, bench-top quadrupole GC-MS dominated. Compared to the GCs they replaced, they gave much greater certainty that the measurements you made were correct and they became familiar and very easy to use.
Accurate-mass MS was reserved for really difficult problems (like dioxins), was very expensive, and required great skill.
Then recently, the Agilent 7200 GC-qTOF MS appeared and suddenly accurate mass MS became affordable, reliable and easy to use.
There are many advantages, and here are the three key ones:
- Accurate mass data, combined with EI spectra means that you have much greater certainty in the identification of components in your sample and offers much more when you are analysing for unknowns.
- Accurate mass data, makes negative CI much more useful for similar reasons. You can distinguish between compounds with the same nominal mass, on a basis of their (different) accurate masses.
- Powerful software tools make it much easier (and quicker) to make sense of the data you generate.
For many analysts, once they understand what GCqTOF MS can do – they will never again be satisfied with a single-quad.
What is clear to us, now that we are using our GCqTOF in the lab, is that for many labs, adopting this instrument will offer a decisive edge in what they are capable of.
We sell an enhanced version of the Agilent 7200 as the MultiFlex GCqTOF. This instrument includes a highly capable, extremely versatile sample preparation and introduction system, to match the powerful MS capabilities of the Agilent 7200. We back this with a comprehensive training and support package – so that you can make the most of the investment.
If you would like to see what this instrument can do for you, then we can offer two choices:
See here for details of our MultiFlex GCqTOF workshops, and to reserve your place.
