Now could be a great time to replace your old high resolution GC-MS with GC/Q-TOF.

Here’s why…

If you wander through the labs of any academic institution, you will often come across ancient sector instruments that have seen better days. These high resolution instruments perform a useful, often unique role, but are very expensive to replace like for like.

The Waters GCT was a brave attempt at providing affordable high resolution, accurate mass GC-MS in a bench top format, but many of these instruments are now well into their second decade and long past their best.

A couple of years ago Agilent Technologies launched the 7200 GC/Q-TOF and this has proved to be a stunningly good high resolution instrument, that has proved to be very stable, very robust and very easy to use.

The GC/Q-TOF offers greater functionality than older high resolution instruments; with full-scan spectral acquisition and MS/MS capability too.

Agilent have just announced a new B version of the 7200 GC/Q-TOF that offers some useful enhancements:

  • EI/CI is now  standard – with the ability to quickly switch between the two modes
  • The mass range is now extended to m/z 3,000
  • The unique ability to create and work with exact mass libraries.

Our applications lab will shortly take delivery of a new 7200B and we will also receive a Thermal Separation Probe (TSP).  For a copy of the brochure, please download this PDF.

The TSP is a fresh take on the old direct insertion probe and offers far more control over the way that solid samples are presented to the source. You can learn more about it here.

The TSP is the last piece of the jigsaw needed to enable the GC/Q-TOF to match the range of tasks that older high resolution instruments can carry out, so now is a good time to think about upgrading your labs capabilities.

We will have our new 7200B GC/Q-TOF up and running early in the New Year, so if you want to pay us a visit to put it through its paces, why not contact us now and book a date?
