New Sample Preparation System from Teledyne Tekmar

3rd October 2012

On the 30th of September, at the AOAC meeting in Las Vegas, Teledyne Tekmar launched a brand new chromatography sample prep automation system, the AutoMate-Q40.

Teledyne Tekmar are a company that know how to do their homework and this is undoubtedly, a very interesting and significant new product.

This brief video clip shows how the AutoMate-Q40 operates.

As launched, the AutoMate-Q40 is specifically designed and optimised to automate the QuEChERS sample preparation workflow (for the clean-up of pesticide residues in food).

The system is pre-configured to conduct two of the most popular QuEChERS sample preparation methods: AOAC 2007.01 (Pesticide Residues in Food by Acetonitrile Extraction and Partitioning with Magnesium Sulfate) and EN 15662.2008 (Foods of Plant Origin-Determination of Pesticide Residues Using GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS Following Acetonitrile Extraction/Partitioning and Clean-up by Dispersive SPE-QuEChERS method).

When I watched the CAD video, several things were apparent to me:

  1. This is a very competent instrument.
  2. It is designed to use bulk reagents rather than QuEChERS kits. This will save users a fortune in consumable costs.
  3. The instrument will be capable of a lot more than just QuEChERS automation.

Please download a copy of the brochure here.

The instrument will be available for sale in the UK sometime in the new year and we are starting to put some plans together.

I want to locate a small number of organisations using QuEChERS routinely, who would like to work with us (Anatune & Teledyne Tekmar) to establish the suitability of the AutoMate-Q40 for European needs prior to launch.

Those that do participate will have the benefit of the inside track on this significant new instrument.
