High Capacity Autosampling of Exetainers for Greenhouse Gas Analysis

Automated sampling direct from Exetainers with the GERSTEL MPS

All over the World, lots of labs are carrying out research on greenhouse gases, however, a common gripe from analysts doing this work, is that they have large numbers of sample to analyse and that they find standard auto sampling solutions very restrictive.

What is needed is a simple, high-capacity, autosampler that can work with the containers that are used to collect samples in the field.

One of the most common ways of collecting samples is to use Exetainers.

Last week, while travelling in the USA, I happened to meet an old friend, Udo Rupprecht, who is a director of Lasersan Pte Ltd.  Lasersan is the GERSTEL distributor in Australia and have had considerable success selling fully automated greenhouse gas solutions to Australian labs involved in this work.

Lasersan worked with GERSTEL to produce a very nice autosampler package that can sample 12ml Extetainers directly from a special sample tray. Each tray can accept 60 Exetainers and the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler (MPS) can accommodate lots of these trays, enabling hundreds of Exetainers to be run in a single batch, without operator intervention.

Agilent technologies have an excellent range of off-the-shelf GC solutions for the separation and measurement of different greenhouse gas suites and this MPS solution is a perfect compliment. GERSTEL’s Maestro control software enables the control of the MPS to become part of the GC control software, so you end up with single combined methods and only a single sample sequence to build.

Udo was good enough to provide me with a copy of some PowerPoint slides that detail both Agilent’s current suite of greenhouse gas solutions and the high capacity, Exetainer sampling solution from GERSTEL.

Here in the UK and Ireland, Anatune is able to offer the same solutions detailed in Udo’s presentation, so if you have an interest in a new system, or might like to upgrade the autosampler capabilities of your current instrument, we can help you with either requirement.

If you would like to receive a copy of the PowerPoint, then let me know. Please call +44 (0)1223 279210 or email enquiries@anatune.co.uk.
