GC-MS of Pesticides in High-Chlorophyll Samples

At the recent European Pesticide Residues Workshop in Dublin, Richard Fussell of the UK Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) presented a poster showing the results of some preliminary work that he had carried out using a GERSTEL MultiFlex GC/Q-TOF.

Richard was investigating the potential of Automated Tube (liner) Exchange (ATEX) as a way of reducing the problems of poor analytical robustness when analysing for pesticide residues in green food products. Problems due to a build-up of involatile material in the GC inlet are all too common.

ATEX enables fairly crude extracts to be injected into a disposable micro vial that is operated so that involatile material doesn’t reach the GC inlet. This means that the instrument should be able to operate for extended periods without maintenance.
