Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are routinely analysed in drinking and waste water using static headspace Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (HS-GC-MS). The Element VOC Analyser which features autospiking of internal standards and enables high throughput using a customised 240 position tray and the PrepAhead option in Maestro software is outlined in application note AS138. This application note details an extension of that work to include 3 batches of the required 11 for NS30 procedure for VOC analysis in soft, medium, hard and surface water as well as a 7-day stability trial in spring water. The methods showed good linearities with all correlation coefficients r² above 0.995. Reproducibility experiments %rsd all below 10%, recoveries were between 92 and 107% and 7 day stability within required ±20%. Results demonstrate the suitability of the Element VOC analyser for analysis of VOCs in a range of water types.
