Analysing for Unknowns in Leachables and Extractables

The analysis of L&Es in pharmaceutical products has been a hot topic for a while.

Recently, we have spoken with a couple of analysts involved in this area, who have mentioned that they have had significant difficulties in the identification of unknown analytes that have turned-up in extracts.

Before you can do anything else, obtaining an unambiguous identification of an unexpected component has to come first.

The Agilent 7200 GCqTOF is a high resolution, accurate mass GC-MS that provides much more information in these circumstances and permits you far greater certainty in any identification that you need to make. Couple the 7200 with the GERSTEL MultiFlex for sample preparation and introduction (as we have in our lab) and you have an incredibly powerful problem solving tool.

We are considering starting a short project in the lab, using our GCqTOF, to see how useful high resolution mass spec might be in this context.
