5 Years at Element…

Account Manager, Jeff Stubbs, staff, team, Water,

On 1st March 2012 I began working as an Account Manager for Element.  I’ve just passed my 5 year Anniversary so I thought I would write some words on my experience over that time.

In 2012 and looking for a new challenge, I left my colleagues, and good friends at Northumbrian Water, for whom I’d worked for 11 years and joined Element.  I jumped at the chance to work for Element, and although I still miss many of the people I worked with, I have no regrets doing what I did.

Its been a steep learning curve, and it still is, but every day is different, interesting and challenging all at the same time.  The best thing I love about the job is helping people with their projects in their line of work, and seeing their own success.  It’s a great feeling.

In the last 5 years I’ve seen the number of staff increase from 12 to over 20.  We have more Account Managers, Applications Chemists and Service Engineers, and it all points to how well the business is growing.  The Lab has grown in capability too from when I started; we had 1 GC-MS, 1 GC and 1 LC-MSMS compared to what our lab has now, including GC/Q-TOF, 2 GC-MSMS’s, 2 GC-MS’s, HPLC’s and a SIFT-MS.

I have had the opportunity to travel to France, Poland and Germany with Element for training and customer visits, which have all been a great experience.  I’ve been to many conferences within the UK, and participated in some fantastic presentations.

I have had the privilege to work with world-renowned experts in their particular fields, and managed to learn about so many different and interesting industries, some of which I didn’t even know existed before I started!

In the last 5 years I have had the fortune to work on exciting developments and applications from Whisky to pet foods, aftershaves to dishwasher tablets, and everything in between.

But, my heart will always be with the Water Industry, and in 2015 I was fortunate enough to become the first Industry Specialist for Element (Water and Environmental).  In that time, I have worked on some really interesting applications, some of which I actually used to carry out during my time at NWL, and being able to change how these are able to be done, for the better, is very satisfying.

It’s a great team at Element, and I am proud to work here.

Here’s to the next 5 years!
